Axel Wallenborg spent time with Wolves last year, but now looks most likely to make a move to Everton instead.
The present may be a little concerning – but the future at Everton is bright indeed.
The Toffees stormed to the Premier League 2 title last season with Tom Davies, Mason Holgate, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and now Jonjoe Kenny moving up to the senior squad.
With the likes of Kieran Dowell (below) and Antonee Robinson impressing in Championship loan spells with Nottingham Forest and Bolton Wanderers respectively, there’s no shortage of talented youngsters waiting in the wings for an opportunity.
And Everton’s desire to build for the future has been reflected in their transfer activity too. While the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jordan Pickford arrived for huge fees, unproven youngsters a la Josh Bowler and Lewis Gibson came to Goodison Park via small fees and big hopes.
“Well, they want me to come back again in December,” the 16-year-old said after returning from a five-day trial period with Everton, the second time he has been given a chance to shine by the Merseyside club.
“I was training with the Under-18 team. It felt good too there, I felt I was doing well. “It was fun, I’ve been there once before. It was this spring and it went very well then, I played two matches with the U15 team and did well.”
Wallenborg, who admitted that he came close to signing for Wolves in 2016, added that he believes his aggressive, full-blooded style will prove a good fit for the typically robust English football environment.
Wallenborg is currently tied to Swedish top flight side IF Brommapojkarna and recently made his first appearance for the Under-21s.
