Luke Shaw was Manchester United’s one real positive in their 3-0 Premier League defeat against Spurs at Old Trafford.

The summer transfer window proved to be a lot quieter than fans of Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur were hoping for. Both Luke Shaw and Danny Rose were heavily linked with departures from their clubs this summer, but both remain where they started the summer.

The Mail claimed in May that Spurs were one of the clubs, along with Everton and Chelsea, who were tracking the then-out-of-favour Shaw.

A £30 million signing from Southampton in 2014, the swashbuckling left-back had been the subject of relentless barbs from a clearly unimpressed Jose Mourinho. But it has all changed at the start of 2018/19.

United’s 3-0 home drubbing by Tottenham on Monday confirmed their worst start to a season in 25 years. But Shaw, who is starting to get back to his buccaneering best after so many injury issues, was one of the few positives of an embarrassing night.

And it’s not just Man United fans who were impressed by Shaw’s aggressive, attack-minded display. The visitors from North London also had their eyes on the 23-year-old and it seems that many would happily swap him for Rose given the opportunity.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino turned Shaw into a star at Southampton and it is far from unreasonable to suggest the Argentine could be the man to help the left-back fulfil his vast potential.
