Aston Villa reportedly want to sign Mike Van der Hoorn from Championship rivals Swansea City when his contract expires in July.

Swansea City defender Mike Van der Hoorn has admitted that he hasn’t heard anything about a potential new contract since former chairman Huw Jenkins left the Liberty Stadium, as reported by Wales Online.
Van der Hoorn has enjoyed an impressive season at the heart of Swansea’s backline and has captained the club on plenty of occasions. But the former Ajax centre-back is due to be a free agent when his current contract expires in July.
According to the Sun, Aston Villa are circling and hoping to sign Van der Hoorn for nothing. They wanted the Dutchman in January too but decided to wait until the summer after being hold three months ago that he would cost £10 million.
And Villa should be encouraged by Van der Hoorn’s admission that talks over a new deal have stalled since Jenkins resigned in February.
“It’s quiet. I’m playing my game and we’ll see at the end of the season. I can’t tell you much more,” Van der Hoorn said, while admitting that the Swans have an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

“I think it’s from Swansea, the option, so it’s not my option. They’re going to decide if they want to have me for longer.
“There were talks when Huw Jenkins was here that we would extend the contract by two more years. Obviously he has gone and I haven’t heard anything yet so we’ll see.”
Aston Villa moved up to fifth in the Championship table over the weekend as their fine form continues while Swansea are down in 15th, their play-off hopes looking over.
Van der Hoorn could be forgiven for being tempted by a move to the Midlands if Villa are promoted therefore.
