Dean Smith’s Aston Villa reportedly want to sign Dutch defender Mike Van der Hoorn from Championship rivals Swansea City this summer.

Aston Villa’s hopes of signing Mike Van der Hoorn on a free transfer this summer could soon be over, with Swansea City set to trigger a one-year extension in the defender’s contract, as reported by Wales Online.
Many of Swansea’s key players appear to be facing uncertain futures heading towards the end of the season with Daniel James, Oli McBurnie and Leroy Fer at the centre of speculation.
The Sun, meanwhile, claims that Aston Villa are hoping to reinforce a rather flimsy back line by landing Dutchman Van der Hoorn on a free.
They baulked at the £10 million fee Swansea were demanding in January but were allegedly planning to renew their interest with the former Ajax powerhouse set to become a free agent in July.
But the Swans are now taking steps to ensure this doesn’t happen.

According to Wales Online, Graham Potter’s side will take up their option to extend Van der Hoorn’s contract. This means that Villa will have to pay up if they want to take the 26-year-old to the Midlands.
But will Swansea want £10 million again?
