Championship promotion hopefuls Swansea City made an unsuccessful bid to sign Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna but now Celtic are leading the chase.

Swansea City might have conceded twice against Leeds United on Tuesday night but their centre-back pairing of Mike Van der Hoorn and Joe Rodon still earned plenty of praise. Strong in the air and excellent bringing the ball out from the back, the in-form defensive duo were very impressive in the 2-2 draw with Marcelo Bielsa’s table-toppers.
But beyond Van der Hoorn and Rodon, the Swans don’t have a lot of other options, particularly after selling Federico Fernandez, Alfie Mawson and Kyle Bartley over the summer.
So they have a lot of thinking to do as Celtic step up their pursuit of Scott McKenna. According to the Daily Record, the Scottish Premiership champion have had a bid of £3.5 million rejected by Aberdeen for the highly-rated 21-year-old.
And Swansea, with just over a week remaining in the transfer window, really should consider making a new move for McKenna after seeing an offer rejected by The Dons in recent weeks.

Aberdeen want £10 million for the youngster, who captained Scotland in only his fourth international appearance this year. And Swansea should seize their chance to outbid Celtic, although they would only be able to sign McKenna on loan initially with the possible obligation to make the deal permanent in January or next summer.
Celtic have looked shaky at the back of late but Swansea are arguably in greater need of new centre-backs. Should anything happen to Van der Hoorn or Rodon, the Swans would be in crisis.
