Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers are battling Premier League trio Swansea, Stoke and Leicester City for Bundesliga ace Daniel Opare.
Wolves are 12 points clear at the top of the Championship table and seemingly sauntering towards promotion. But that does not mean Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are about to get complacent.
According to the Express and Star, Nuno wants to freshen up his squad this month and it is not only the striking position in need of reinforcement. The report adds that Wolves want an attack-minded right-back to provide support to Matt Doherty, and it appears they have found their man.
According to The Mail (live transfer blog, 4.20pm), Wolves have joined the race for Augsburg’s £3 million-rated Ghanaian international Daniel Opare. The former Porto man has been relentlessly linked with a move to the Premier League, with Leicester, Stoke and Swansea all reportedly interested, but with Wolves seemingly certain to be a top flight team in the near future Molineux may also be an attractive destination.
And the 27-year-old Opare, who can play on the right or the left, looks like exactly the type of player Wolves have been looking for. Although he has not scored or set up a goal in 14 Bundesliga starts this season, Opare offers a real threat going forward with his athleticism and direct dribbling – much in the same way Doherty threatens down the flanks.
He is also a good crosser of the ball, suggesting that he could add to the ammunition provided for lone striker Leo Bonatini.
In truth, Swansea probably need Opare more and should do everything they can to take him to the Liberty, especially with Kyle Naughton clearly not up to standard and Angel Rangel’s best days behind him.
But Opare would be another piece in Wolves’ promotion jigsaw.
