Newcastle United were tipped to sign Ghana star Andre Ayew from Championship outfit Swansea City.

Swansea player Andre Ayew reacts after a chance goes begging during the Premier League match between Swansea City and Chelsea at Liberty Stadium on April 28, 2018 in Swansea, Wales.

Swansea City are desperate to offload forgotten man Andre Ayew this summer, according to the Wales Online – handing Newcastle United a second chance to sign a player who’d add goals, skill and creativity to their forward line.

Newcastle have endured a rather frustrating summer so far with Rafa Benitez walking away and new signings slow to materialose.

But if the Magpies could help Ayew rediscover the fabulous form he showed during that 2015/16 season at the Liberty, when he scored 12 Premier League goals and caused opposition defences no end of problems with his superb movement, they could perhaps pull off an inspired, if left-field, addition that gives these fans something to cheer about at last.

HITC sources told us last year that Newcastle were keen to bring Ayew to St James’ Park before he embarked upon a forgettable loan spell in Turkey with Fenerbahce.

And Swansea will be praying that Newcastle renew their interest in the next few weeks.

Because Wales Online claims that Ayew is one of those who Swansea are desperate to cash in on this summer, just a year-and-a-half after they brought the Marseille ace back for a second spell in South Wales. It seems very unlikely that they would recoup that club-record £18 million investment, however – especially with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley again unlikely to spend big this summer.

But if the Ghana star is available for a cut-price fee, this is an opportunity Newcastle must consider.

Ayew is capable of replicating Salomon Rondon’s productivity while offering the kind of electric movement in the final third that Joselu and co could only dream of.
