Virgil Gomis has not made a single Championship appearance under Aitor Karanka despite his fantastic form for Nottingham Forest’s Under 23s.

What more does Virgil Gomis have to do to get a chance at Nottingham Forest? That appears to be the opinion of a number of fans, after the highly-rated striker scored yet again for the U23s on Monday evening.
Gomis has been in quite remarkable form throughout 2018 so far. He scored 22 goals for Forest’s reserve team last season and has maintained that golden streak so far in the new campaign, netting the third goal in the 3-0 win against Barnsley.
According to the Nottingham Post in May, Gomis was given the chance to train with Nottingham Forest’s first-team squad at the end of last season. As of yet, however, the 19-year-old has still not been given a senior debut.

The fact that he featured for the U23s against Barnsley suggests he is unlikely to be part of Aitor Karanka’s squad to take on Stoke City in the EFL Cup third round on Wednesday.
This certainly feels like a missed opportunity, with Gomis deserving the chance to prove himself at a higher level; especially when you consider that Forest have scored just 11 goals in nine Championship games under Karanka this season.
