Sunderland are reportedly ready to let Will Buckley leave – and it appears unlikely that he will stay at Sheffield Wednesday.

The fact that Will Buckley is still contracted to Sunderland rather sums up the inadequate recruitment in place at the Stadium of Light. The 27-year-old has not played a single game for the club since 2014/15 and is currently embarking on a third loan spell away from Wearside in the last two seasons.
All in all, it’s no surprise that The Chronicle claims that Sunderland will let Buckley leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.
The question, however, is where the quick footed winger, who earned a move to the Premier League on the back of some fine performances under former Black Cats boss Gus Poyet at Brighton, will be plying his trade next season.

After all, it’s fair to say Buckley hasn’t exactly set the world alight on loan at Sheffield Wednesday. Coupled with a shoulder injury that ruled him out for a number of months, the wideman has only started twice for the club since arriving at Hillsborough on loan in August while coming off the bench on another eight occasions.
However, despite fitness issues undermining his ability to make an impact with the Yorkshire club, Buckley has still failed to produce a goal or an assist in his ten appearances in Wednesday colours.
Like his previous loan spells at Birmingham City and Leeds United, therefore, it appears distinctly unlikely that Buckley has done enough to earn a permanent stay.

He told the Yorkshire Post last month that we was hoping to get a chance to stake his claim in the final few weeks of the season but, since then, he has not featured in a single minute of Championship football.
The free agent market looks set to claim another lost footballing soul.
