League One Sunderland are reportedly close to signing midfielder George Evans from Championship outfit Reading this summer.

After swooping to sign the Scotland international Dylan McGeouch on a free transfer from Hibernian, Sunderland appear to be on the verge of another bargain deal for another gifted midfielder.
The Chronicle claimed on Monday that Sunderland have agreed a fee with Reading to sign George Evans, who now looks set to undergo a medical with the Black Cats. It was not reported just how much Sunderland were due to pay for the former Manchester City youngster however – until now, that is.
The Northern Echo is reporting that the Wearsiders will pay £250,000 to sign Evans, who could become Jack Ross’ seventh summer signing in the next 48 hours.

A 23-year-old who can play in midfield or at centre-back, Evans will be a much needed addition with Sunderland likely to lose a number of players before the transfer window shuts. Didier Ndong has been heavily linked with clubs in Turkey while the Northern Echo adds that Lee Cattermole and George Honeyman could also be on their way out.
One-time England U19 ace Evans was a regular for Reading as they reached the Championship play-off final in 2017 but he featured far more sporadically last season. He started just nine league matches but should still be one of the most talented midfielders in the third tier.
