New Sunderland manager Jack Ross reportedly wanted to sign Lewis Morgan on loan from Scottish Premiership giants Celtic.
Sunderland might have been keeping a close eye on Lewis Morgan as he made his Celtic debut in the pre-season clash against SK Vorworts on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old scored 18 goals and assisted 13 more as the Buddies won the Scottish Championship title, securing a £300,000 move to Celtic in January before returning to Paisley on loan for the remainder of the season.
Just imagine what sort of impact Morgan could make on a Sunderland squad suffering from a real dearth of creativity should he make the move to Wearside on loan this summer.
But the chances of Celtic letting the Scotland starlet leave on another temporary deal look slim, especially after he shone in the first game of the pre-season tour.
“I thought Lewis did well. He has come in and he has worked hard. He has come in to make an impact,” Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers told the Daily Record.
James Forrest scored the winning goal against the Austrian minnows but it was arguably Morgan who stood out the most, showing speed and creativity on the right side as he immediately got to grips with Rodgers’ game-plan.
If Sunderland wanted to sign Morgan, they were probably in need of a more ineffective display that would have Rodgers wondering if he was truly ready for Celtic.
