Andrew Nelson could soon make his Sunderland debut in League One with Jack Ross in need of depth up front.

The highly-rated Andrew Nelson is also closing in on a return, which will give manager Jack Ross a much-needed boost to his striking options between now and the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old began his career with Sunderland but is still waiting for a first senior appearance for the Black Cats. After scoring four times during a loan spell at Falkirk in the second half of last season, Nelson appeared to force his way into Sunderland’s plans before an injury in pre-season stalled his progress.
But after recovering from surgery, Nelson has posted a positive message on Twitter with a return to the field edging closer.
Manager Jack Ross has shown a refreshing commitment to Sunderland’s array of promising young talents since arriving on Wearside after leading St Mirren to the Scottish Championship title.
The likes of Denver Hume, Bali Mumba, George Honeyman and Josh Maja have been given key roles in the first-team this season so that bodes well for Nelson, particularly with big number nine Charlie Wyke out until the New Year.
