League One outfit Sunderland have reportedly made a bid to sign striker Mo Eisa from League Two Cheltenham Town.

It has been quite the rise for Mo Eisa.

As recently as 2016/17, the Sudanese striker was playing non-league football for Greenwich Borough. Now, he is the subject of a £1 million bid from the giants of Sunderland after hitting 25 goals in his first ever season of professional football at Cheltenham Town.

Eisa was a revelation in League Two after making the step up from semi-pro level and it seems that his natural goalscoring instincts could earn him the chance to play for arguably the biggest club in the third tier of English football.

And after Sky Sports claimed that Sunderland made an initial bid for a player Cheltenham value closer to £1.5 million, new Black Cats boss Jack Ross has confirmed his interest in the highly-rated 24-year-old.

“When we were doing recruitment in Scotland, we were always aware of players in England,” Ross, who led St Mirren to the Scottish Championship title last season, told the Northern Echo.

“We look at playing history and what people have done in their careers, and he (Eisa) is a player whose goal-scoring record has been outstanding through different levels of the game. I don’t think there should be a snobbery attached to that – to score that many goals at those levels, you have to be good.”

A prolific centre-forward is perhaps the biggest missing link in Sunderland’s squad at the moment.

The Northern Echo adds that they have also made a £600,000 bid to sign Charlie Wyke, the Middlesbrough-born target man who scored 15 League One goals for Bradford City in 2017/18.
