Everton’s Brendan Galloway failed miserably on loan at West Brom last season and his spell in the Championship with Sunderland has not gone much better.
For the second season in a row, Brendan Galloway could see a loan move cancelled before the end of the season.
The Everton-owned defender managed just three Premier League appearances in a 2016/17 spell at West Bromwich Albion which, by his own admission, turned into a nightmare pretty quickly.
And after just five starts on loan at Sunderland in the current campaign, speculation has intensified that Everton could look to cut short the 21-year-old’s move at the earliest possible opportunity.
The Sunderland Echo states that the Toffees are weighing up whether or not to keep Galloway at the Stadium of Light or bring him back to Goodison Park. Considering that the left-sided youngster has not started a game since September, and has played just 42 minutes under Chris Coleman, it makes little sense for him to continue warming the bench on Wearside.
Although if the reaction from Sunderland fans is anything to go by, Galloway will not be missed at the Championship’s bottom club.
Ever since that nightmare outing at home to Leeds United, where Galloway was clearly targeted by the visitors and hooked after just 55 minutes, he has barely had a look in with Bryan Oviedo firmly established as the club’s first-choice left-back once again.
What the future holds at Everton after another wasted loan spell is unknown. What is clear, however, is that Galloway is probably better off cutting his losses and leaving Sunderland while he can.
