Benjamin Kimpioka made his League One debut for Jack Ross’s Sunderland at the Stadium of Light recently.

Jack Ross’s attempts to take Sunderland back to the Championship at the first time of asking have certainly been aided by the array of highly talented academy graduates at his disposal.
Denver Hume, George Honeyman, Lynden Gooch and nine-goal striker Josh Maja have all been hugely impressive for a Sunderland side currently third after 12 games in League One. And young Benjamin Kimpioka has made his mark, too.
The 18-year-old had never made a first-team appearance before this season but scored just two minutes into his full debut in the 3-1 Checkatrade Trophy victory against Carlisle United.
It seems that Kimpioka is also turning heads in training. How could he not, if he can score goals of such supreme quality?
Honeyman and Gooch, two players who rose through the ranks on Wearside and established themselves as crucial first-team players, were clearly impressed.

As a consequence, a first league start for Sweden U19 international Kimpioka should be just around the corner.
Speaking to Sunderland’s official website after Kimpioka was introduced off the bench in the recent 2-2 draw with Peterborough United, Ross described the talented midfielder as an enigma and admitted that he could get more chances in the first-team if he continues to produce at U23 level.
