Didier Ndong could still have a chance to leave League One club Sunderland with Primeira Liga giants SL Benfica having been reportedly interested.

Sunderland have two more days to get rid of Didier Ndong.

Now, the transfer window may have closed for almost every country in Europe but clubs in Portugal are still capable of bringing in new additions. The Portuguese window does not close until this Friday after all.

And Sunderland cannot let such an opportunity pass them by. A Bola first reported in August that Benfica were in talks with the Black Cats’ £13 million misfit while the Northern Echo claimed earlier in September that the Primeira Liga giants were still in discussions with his representatives.

Now, it is no secret that Sunderland are desperate to get Ndong off their books. He is not part of Jack Ross’ plans, hasn’t played since being sent off in a 4-0 defeat to Cardiff in January and, put simply, is an unnecessary drain on the club’s resources.

According to the Sunderland Echo, Ndong failed to report to pre-season training this summer and told Sunderland that he wanted to leave.

And the Black Cats should be doing everything they can to get the Gabon international off their books. Particularly as manager Jack Ross suggested to The Chronicle that the club couldn’t offer recent trialist Gael Andonian a contract so long as Ndong remains at the Stadium of Light.
