Stevan Jovetic only moved to Monaco in the summer, but the Montenegrin striker is already unhappy in Ligue 1 – could Newcastle United renew their interest?
Stevan Jovetic had big boots to fill when moving to Ligue 1 Champions Monaco in the summer, following the departures of influential attacking duo Kylian Mbappe and Bernardo Silva.
And, so far, a player whose career has never really taken off, has again struggled to meet expectations in his new surroundings. Monaco invested £10 million in bringing Jovetic to the principality from Inter Milan (The Mail) but, after just one goal and three Ligue 1 starts, the Montenegrin is already facing an uncertain future.
Sevilla ABC reports that Jovetic is unhappy with his disappointing start to life in France and La Liga giants Sevilla, who couldn’t afford to sign the former Manchester City prospect on a permanent deal this summer following an impressive loan spell last season, may return in January.

And Spain’s Sport claims that Monaco may now be willing to part with Jovetic for half the price they paid for his signature just two months ago – with Brighton and Hove Albion a long-standing suitor.
This, therefore, may be of interest to Newcastle United. Tuttomercatoweb claimed late in the summer transfer window that Jovetic was one of manager Rafael Benitez’s primary targets, only for Monaco to complete a late swoop.
And with The Chronicle reporting that Benitez is still after a striker and a ‘number ten’, who better than a player who combines both roles with style and class, if a bit of a lack of consistency?
At £5 million, Jovetic would be a stunning bargain in today’s market. And although Jovetic failed to make the grade at City, Inter and, so far, Monaco, the striker is still young and talented enough to fulfil his vast potential.
