Ex-Millwall boss Neil Harris and Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes are the latest names in the frame to take over Championship strugglers Stoke City.

Stoke City are hoping to hold talks with Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes as the Championship strugglers scour the market for a new manager, according to the Daily Record, while former Millwall coach Neil Harris is keen to take over at the Bet 365 Stadium.

The Potters sacked Nathan Jones after a winning just two of their first 14 games of the season and their problems were laid bare in a dreadful 2-0 home defeat to West Brom on Monday, a result which leaves the one-time Premier League stalwarts bottom of the second tier.

So whoever replaces Jones in the hot seat will have one hell of a job on his hands.

That has not put off Harris, however, who seemingly believes that he can turn Stoke’s fortunes around.

The Mirror (7 November, page 61) claims that the 42-year-old wants to secure an immediate return to management after leaving Millwall a month ago and his proven track record in the Championship should hold him in good stead.

The Record, meanwhile, states that Stoke will ask Aberdeen for permission to speak to McInnes. The Dons are apparently concerned that the 48-year-old could be tempted away from Pittodrie, though Stoke will have to pay a substantial compensation fee due to the fact that McInnes only recently signed a ‘lucrative’, long-term contract.

McInnes has performed miracles in the Championship before, leading Bristol City clear of the relegation zone in 2011 after an eight-game unbeaten streak. Can he do the same again?
