Bojan Krkic’s Spain career didn’t quite work out as he would have hoped. Eight years after his only cap, however, he could turn out for another nation.

Spanish forward Bojan Krkic could be granted dual-nationality, allowing him to be called up by Serbia, according to Sport.

The former Barcelona youngster (below), who has reignited his career with Stoke City after disappointing spells at Ajax and Roma, won his only cap for Spain as an 18-year-old against Armenia in a World Cup qualifier in 2008.

However, after falling completely out of contention for La Roja, Bojan has turned his attentions to Serbia as he looks to kick-start his international career at the age of 26.

According to Sport, former Serbia boss Rade Antic was desperate to convince the elusive forward to switch his allegiance to the Eastern European nation as far back as 2008, but Bojan was determined to make a name for himself alongside Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Fernando Torres in Vicente Del Bosque’s (below) star-studded squad.

Despite being born in Catalonia, Bojan could be allowed to don the shirt of Serbia as his father hails from the Balkan country.

The diminutive forward would certainly add a sprinkling of attacking quality to a nation that has endured a dearth of top class forwards in recent years, undermining their ultimately failed attempts to qualify for each of the last two European Championships.

With the likes of highly-rated Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic, Manchester City’s Aleksandar Kolarov, Ajax play-maker Nemanja Gudelj and Southampton winger Dusan Tadic (below) in their ranks, Serbian fans will rightly be wondering why they have been unable to make their mark on the European stage in recent years.

Bojan’s as yet hypothetical arrival could help in that respect.
