Sean Clare is still without a club since leaving Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday – could Leeds United be an option for him?

Sean Clare has gone from being linked to countless clubs in the top two tiers of English football, not to mention Celtic and Rangers, to being a free agent in the middle of September.

The 21-year-old left Sheffield Wednesday in July when his contract expired but, for whatever reason, has so far failed to put pen to paper with new employers. Though given that he is without a club, there is nothing to stop Clare from getting a move outside of the transfer window.

And with a gruelling fixture schedule on the horizon, Leeds United should perhaps consider offering Clare a route back into regular football.

TEAMtalk claimed in August that Leeds, along with Swansea and Fulham, were interested in the cultured midfielder, who was expected to join Aston Villa before move fell through due to financial reasons.

Blessed with skill and the ability to glide from box to box, Clare certainly has the technical and physical qualities to fit into Marcelo Bielsa’s infamously imitable style at Elland Road.

And he’s young enough too to adapt to the high-pressing system favoured by the Argentine tactician. Furthermore, Clare would give Leeds some depth in the centre of the park, allowing the likes of Mateusz Klich and Kalvin Phillips to enjoy a rest when required.

Leeds would only have to pay Wednesday a small compensation fee to sign Clare – and that would be a fraction of his market value.
