Should Nottingham Forest trust Aitor Karanka to lead them out of the Championship, or turn to the sacked Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic?

Aitor Karanka, manager of Middlesbrough looks on during the Premier League match between Stoke City and Middlesbrough at Bet365 Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Stoke on Trent, England.

Nottingham Forest may be seventh in the Championship table heading into the international break, just six points off the top of the table, but it would be inaccurate to suggest that Aitor Karanka is in favour with every single member of the City Ground faithful.

The Spaniard might have presided over an improved run of results of late, but there are still cynics who would wonder whether the famously pragmatic Karanka is the right man to get the best out of a Forest squad blessed with plenty of impressive attacking talents.

Crucially, Evangelos Marinakis appears to be among the doubters.

The Mail reported that the Forest owner jetted in to England recently and was rather unhappy with his club’s start to the season. It seems that he expected better after investing £25 million on new players in January.

With Slavisa Jokanovic suddenly available, the East Midland side have a decision to make – do they stick or twist?

Jokanovic’s Fulham career might have ended with the club bottom of the Premier League, but it was the Serb who took them there in the first place. Jokanovic earned promotion as recently as May with a Fulham team who arguably played the most exciting brand of football in the league.

The former Chelsea defender also enjoyed similar success at Watford, finishing second in the Championship in 2015.

And just imagine how thrilling this current Forest side could be if Jokanovic got his hands on Joao Carvalho, Joe Lolley, Matty Cash, Gil Dias and co.

But should these perennial underachievers put all their faith behind Karanka instead?
