Sunderland goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter made just one League One appearance for Jack Ross’s side last season.
Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has confirmed to Roker Report that back-up goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter will be on his way out of the Stadium of Light this summer.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper joined The Black Cats in the summer of 2017 during Simon Grayson’s ill-fated spell in charge, signing a two year deal after impressing during a brief trial period.
But Ruiter hardly covered himself in glory during a miserable debut campaign on Wearside, conceding 32 goals in just 20 Championship games as Sunderland finished bottom of the table.
And the former Utrecht number one has barely had a sniff of first-team action since Scotland international Jon McLaughlin signed on a free transfer from Hearts last summer. Ruiter played just 14 minutes of football for Jack Ross’s side as they finished fifth in League One.
Ruiter told Dutch publication Algemeen Dagblad last week that he would ‘probably’ leave Sunderland when his contract expires in July – and Donald has now pretty much confirmed that the veteran has played his last game for the club.
“Robbin Ruiter will go, yeah,” he said.
Ruiter made almost 150 Eredivisie appearances during five years at Utrecht and it remains to be seen if he will be offered a return to the Netherlands when he becomes a free agent.
