Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld will reportedly be available for £25m this summer but could Liverpool make a move?

Steve Nicol thinks Liverpool should make a move for Toby Alderweireld, with the Belgian international facing an uncertain future at Tottenham Hotspur, speaking to ESPN FC.
The 30-year-old defender has been a linchpin of Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side for the last four years, having joined from Southampton for a bargain £11.5 million according to the Mail.
But it seems that Alderweireld’s time in North London could be coming to an end. It is no secret that the former Ajax and Atletico Madrid ace is out of contract in the summer of 2020 and he has a very affordable £25 million release clause heading into the upcoming transfer window (the Guardian).
And Nicol believes that Liverpool should be at the front of the queue as they look for a top class partner for Virgil Van Dijk.
“One hundred per cent this guy’s going. We just don’t know where it is,” said the 57-year-old, who had 13 years at Anfield.
“Again, this is a player who I think most teams in the world would want as their centre-back.

“I wouldn’t mind him at Liverpool alongside Van Dijk, I think that would be a great pairing.”
Liverpool do appear to be in the market for a new defender, the Sun reporting that Jurgen Klopp was keen to bring in reinforcements with Matthias Ginter and Diego Llorente among those who have been linked so far.
But Alderweireld for £25 million? That is serious business – even if he did score a last-minute own goal at Anfield just a few days ago.
