Leicester City are set to appoint Celtic’s Scottish Premiership champion Brendan Rodgers as their new manager.
Steve Lomas has admitted that he is missing life in the dugout and would jump at the chance to join Brendan Rodgers’ coaching staff at Leicester City, speaking to talkSPORT (26 February, 12.50pm).
After sacking Claude Puel on Sunday, the Foxes appear set to hire Rodgers as his replacement, with Celtic confirming on Tuesday via an official statement that they have given the 2016 Premier League champions permission to speak to the Northern Irishman.
Lomas, in contrast, has been out of the game since his ill-fated spell at Millwall came to a premature end after just 24 games in December 2013. This is despite the fact that the former Manchester City and West Ham midfielder did a fine job at St Johnstone, leading them into Europe in successive seasons for the first time in their history.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Lomas admitted that he might need to look for assistant manager jobs as he aims to build up his reputation again and would be keen to help out compatriot Rodgers at the King Power Stadium.
“I would love to (coach again). I’m realistic, I know I’ve been out of it for five years so it’s going to be difficult. I felt that the job I did at St Johnstone that I’d get another opportunity,” said the 45-year-old.
“I’ve applied for a few jobs. I’ve been close, down to the last two and just didn’t get the nod.
“You have to have a friend that you trust so if Brendan is looking for a trusty assistant I’d certainly be looking to help him.”
Lomas has a very good relationship with Rodgers, who is just 12 months his senior. Yet it remains to be seen whether the Leicester-bound boss will offer Lomas a role at the Premier League club.
