Celtic battered Killie 5-1 at Parkhead on Saturday, re-establishing their place at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
Any talk of Kilmarnock ‘doing a Leicester’ seems a little premature.
Steve Clarke’s side travelled to Celtic on Saturday top of the Scottish Premiership table, but Brendan Rodgers’ team wasted little time in putting Kille in their place. By half time, the visitors were 4-0 down at Parkhead and the scoreline was 5-1 once the referee blew the final whistle.
Celtic were in rampant form with Odsonne Edouard, Mikael Lustig and Ryan Christie on target, while James Forrest maintained his outstanding form with a clinical brace.
Speaking to Kilmarnock’s official website, manager Steve Clarke has admitted that his side could not live with a swarm of green and white.
“Celtic were very good – very, very good,” said Clarke.
“They started quicker than us and got their noses in front. We then lost our shape a little bit and our discipline, too. But Celtic looked more alert right from the off.
“Take nothing away from Celtic.”
Speaking on Friday, former Killie striker Pat Nevin told the Daily Record that Clarke would be the ‘obvious replacement’ for Brendan Rodgers should the Northern Irishman bid farewell to Celtic in the near future.
But Celtic’s Saturday stroll highlighted the chasm that still remains between the two sides. If Rodgers’ Hoops are on top form, no one in Scottish football can live with them.
