Aston Villa currently sit in third position in the Championship table.
Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce addressed the media yesterday, and admitted that he still has not studied the Championship table, with just 12 league games remaining this season, as quoted by the Express & Star.
The Villans currently sit in third position in the Championship table, four points adrift of second placed Cardiff City, and a further six behind league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Bruce’s men have been in superb form over the past couple of months, having lost just one league game since Boxing Day, and they have hit form at just the right time.
Their work is far from complete, however, and they will surely want to avoid the lottery of the play-offs at all costs.
Bruce addressed the media yesterday, and insisted that it is still too early to be studying the table, with so much football sill to be played in the Championship this season, as quoted by the Express & Star:
“I still haven’t really studied it (the table) if I am being honest,” he said. “I only really study it with eight or nine games to go. I have a glimpse. I know Cardiff are four points ahead of us. I know who is behind us and who is at the top. Once it gets down to six or eight games to go, then you realise the importance because you can’t close gaps. You have to produce and get the results at the right time. Can you be the ones who go on a run at the end? That is always the most important thing.”
The Villa boss surely has more knowledge of the way the table looks than he is letting on, and if he doesn’t, his side are surely at a disadvantage.
The manner in which they approach games, both psychologically and tactically, could hinge on their standing in the league, and if Bruce doesn’t know exactly where they stand, Villa fans will be hoping that the players do.
