Newcastle United and Everton were linked with Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro over the summer.
Given the whole host of talented midfielders on Juventus’ books, it is perhaps little surprise that Stefano Sturaro has struggled for opportunities this season.
The Italy international has started a combined 31 Serie A games in the last three seasons for the perennial Champions – and the summer signings of Blaise Matuidi and Rodrigo Bentancur have forced Sturaro ever further down the pecking order.
Juventus have played 12 Serie A games so far in 2017/18, but Sturaro has featured in just three of them – only twice from the start. But the midfielder may have offers to kick-start his career in the Premier League.
“It’s a pleasure for Stefano that he’s wanted by clubs at home and abroad,” the three-time Serie A champion’s agent, Stefano Volpi, told ll Bianconero. “In the Premier League, for example, interest always comes from teams like Everton and Newcastle.”
Volpi, however, added that Sturaro was content with life under Max Allegri – despite his lack of opportunities costing him a place in the Italian national team squad after he featured regularly at Euro 2016.
Interest from Everton was reported back in the summer but, with Beni Baningime rising through the ranks to challenge Idrissa Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davies for a starting berth, you wonder whether this ‘jack of all trades’ would fit in.
Sturaro would be more likely to start for Newcastle, however, with Rafa Benitez’s side a little lighter in central midfield. A partnership of Sturaro and Mikel Merino would give The Magpies both class and steel in the centre of the park.
