Diafra Sakho feels he should be paid more at West Ham and when compared to Andy Carroll and Javier Hernandez it is difficult to argue with him.
West Ham United’s Diafra Sakho in action during the Premier League match against Manchester City.
Sakho is paid around £30,000-a-week at the London Stadium, while others in the same position – such as Andy Carroll and Javier Hernandez – earn between £80,000 and £110,000-a-week.
West Ham United striker Javier Hernandez is seen on the substitutes bench during the English Premier League football match against Huddersfield Town.
The Senegal international thinks he was promised an improvement on his contract to close that gap, but nothing has materialised and as a result the 28-year-old wants to leave the Hammers during the January transfer window.
Sakho is unlikely to be short of suitors, with Crystal Palace having made a move for the attacker and Bordeaux, Brighton and Hove Albion, Marseille, Nice, Rennes, Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion also interested.
So when compared to the other natural number nines currently at West Ham in Carroll and Hernandez, are these gripes fair? The statistics would suggest they are.
Andy Carroll of West Ham United celebrates after scoring his side’s second goal during the Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion.
Since Sakho arrived at the East London club from Metz in the summer of 2014, he has scored 24 goals in 71 appearances. During the same period Carroll has netted 21 in 86 games.
This season both Sakho and Hernandez have scored four times apiece, yet the former has done it from four fewer matches and only three starts.
