West Ham United are in top form having beaten both Everton and Manchester United in the Premier League.

It has been a season of two halves already for West Ham United.

After losing their first four Premier League games for the first time since they were relegated in 2010/11, Manuel Pellegrini’s side have returned after the international break like a team transformed.

After beating Everton and ending Chelsea’s 100 per cent record, West Ham added to Manchester United’s gloom with a 3-1 victory at a raucous London Stadium on Saturday.

Speaking to the Mirror (2 October, page 51), Stan Collymore has lauded the impact Pellegrini has made in recent weeks and expects the Hammers to end this season in the top ten.

“Fair play to Manuel Pellegrini for the way he has turned things round at West Ham after their dismal start to the season,” Collymore said.

“What I like about the Chilean is that he didn’t get too down when they’d lost four games and that he won’t be getting carried away just because they’ve beaten Everton and Manchester United and drawn with Chelsea.

“I expect the Hammers to be mixing it in the race to finish best of the rest now.”

‘Best of the rest’ usually translates to seventh place now; the coveted position just outside the Premier League’s much-vaunted ‘big six’.

If the likes of Andriy Yarmolenko, Felipe Anderson and particularly Marko Arnautovic can continue their fine form, there is no reason why West Ham cannot fight the likes of Everton and Watford for a top-half finish.
