Charlie Austin was furious as Southampton were denied a second goal by the officials in their 1-1 Premier League draw against Watford.

Charlie Austin made his feelings clear in his post-match rant after Southampton were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Watford on Saturday.
The Saints were in dire need of three points having only won one game in the Premier League this season. And Austin thought for all the world that he had relieved some of the pressure on manager Mark Hughes when he fired home a deflected strike in the second half to seemingly give his team a 2-0 lead.
But, after the wild celebrations subsided, it quickly became apparent that the goal had been disallowed.
Southampton’s Maya Yoshida was adjudged to have deflected Austin’s strike into the goal from an offside position. The only problem was, he never touched the ball. Cue Austin’s impassioned monologue in which he accused the officials of costing the Saints dear.
Writing in his column for the Mirror (13 November, page 51), Stan Collymore was certainly pleased to see a footballer showing his passion in an era of soundbite-spitting, media-trained robots.

“Charlie Austin’s post-match interview on Saturday harked back to a time when players, managers and coaches said respectfully but passionately what they actually felt,” said the former Aston Villa and Liverpool striker.
“It was more interesting and gave more insight into the mind of a player than most of what we saw from Austin’s Southampton side or their opponents Watford during the match which preceded it. I’d like to see more of that.”
Southampton were left hugely frustrated at the death when a deflected strike from Jose Holebas levelled the scores with eight minutes to go, cancelling out Manolo Gabbiadini’s first-half strike.
Hughes’ strugglers are 17th as it stands, just three points off the bottom.
