Celtic signed Oliver Burke from West Bromwich Albion while Jermain Defoe arrived at their Scottish Premiership challengers Rangers.

The January transfer window has certainly started at a rate of knots for the Old Firm.
Rangers have snapped up experienced Premier League duo Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe on loan from Southampton and Bournemouth respectively while Glen Kamara and Jordan Jones have signed pre-contract agreements with the Ibrox giants.
Celtic, meanwhile, landed Scotland international winger Oliver Burke on loan from West Bromwich Albion with 18-year-old USA striker Timothy Weah following in his footsteps from PSG.
Now, such is the nature of the rivalry in Glasgow that Celtic and Rangers fans have been arguing on social media about who has got the better of the deals. But, speaking to the Mirror (8 January, page page 49) Stan Collymore has pointed out that both clubs have pulled off one particularly impressive addition.
“Jermain Defoe is a good signing for Rangers and he will make Steven Gerrard’s team significantly better. He will give them a much better chance of ending Celtic’s domination,” Collymore said.

“But a move that has gone slightly under the radar by comparison is that of Oliver Burke to Celtic. If in the summer they can turn the loan from West Brom into a permanent deal then he could well be a cracking signing.”
36-year-old Defoe is a proven goal-scorer, one of the most prolific in Premier League history, and has been brought in to fire Rangers to their first domestic title since 2012.
Burke, meanwhile, has a point to prove after his club-record £15 million move to West Brom ended in disappointment.
