St Mirren’s Scottish Premiership star Vaclav Hladky has reportedly entered talks over a shock move to Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.

St Mirren are bottom of the Scottish Premiership table having lost seven of their first 11 league games this season. But imagine how much worse off they would be if it wasn’t for the outstanding Vaclav Hladky.

Thanks to the Czech goalkeeper, the Buddies have conceded just one goal a game on average so far in 2019/20 with the 6ft 2ins stopper saving St Mirren from humiliation on almost a weekly basis.

No wonder Rangers want him.

Hladky dropped a bombshell on Tuesday night when he admitted to the Record that Steven Gerrard’s side have held talks with his camp about a potential move to Ibrox either in January or at the end of the campaign.

“Rangers are interested in me and some negotiations are under way,” said the former Slovan Liberec ace.

Ask any Rangers fanatic and they will tell you that the best goalkeeper in Scotland is already plying his trade at Ibrox with Allan McGregor as good as ever at the age of 37. But, according to St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin, even the evergreen McGregor cannot hold a candle to Hladky.

“I’m not being disrespectful to any of the guys at Celtic or Rangers or Joe Lewis at Aberdeen for that matter,” Goodwin told Herald Scotland recently, insisting that no one in the Premiership comes close to a goalkeeper he believes is worth £1 million.

“I just can’t get over how good he is. If he was three or four inches taller he would probably be playing down in the English Premier League. We know we are going to have a job on our hands to hang on to him

“Hindsight is a great thing, it’s a pity we didn’t sign him on a five-year deal with a million pound get-out clause.”

Given that Hladky is out of contract at the end of the season, St Mirren are very unlikely to get anything near £5 million for their talisman should he seal a move to Ibrox in the next two months.
