Borna Barisic scored his first Scottish Premiership goal to fire Steven Gerrard’s Rangers past St Mirren.

Borna Barisic celebrated his finest moment in Rangers colours during a hard-fought 1-0 win away at St Mirren and Buddies boss Jim Goodwin believes his side could do nothing about a stunning free-kick which sealed three points for the visitors, speaking to YouTube after the game.
At the seventeenth time of asking, the Croatian international finally opened his account in the Scottish Premiership. And there are worse ways to score your first goal.
On the hour, Barisic fired home the only goal of the game at St Mirren Park with an inch-perfect free-kick which soared into the top corner out of the reach of home goalkeeper Vlacav Hladky.
A £2.2 million signing from Osijek last summer (BBC), Barisic certainly needed that after a difficult few months which have cast doubt on his future in Steven Gerrard’s side.
But while Gerrard was understandably thrilled with the much-maligned full-back’s match-winning heroics, Goodwin too had plenty to say about arguably the goal of the weekend in Scotland.

“It took a moment of brilliance from Barisic to beat us. That’s what I thought was going to be the case. The longer the game went on I thought it was going to be a penalty or a free-kick that decided it,” Goodwin said.
“They’ve got some dead ball specialists and if it’s not (James) Tavernier it’s Barisic. There’s nothing Vaclav could do about it.”
Could this be a turning point in the career of a much-maligned full-back who has looked bereft of confidence throughout the entirety of 2019?
On his day, Barisic is capable of putting the ball on a sixpence with his wand of a left foot and this glorious set-piece could give him the new lease of life he desperately needs.
