Leeds have kept Ross McCormack’s old number 44 shirt vacant.
McCormack is under contract at Aston Villa after signing for the club last summer, but is out of favour with manager Steve Bruce.
There is one small hint that Leeds may be open to a McCormack move – they appear to have deliberately kept his old squad number free.

McCormack wore the number 44 at Leeds during his time at the club, and also wore the number at Fulham.
The striker also wears the number 44 at Aston Villa.
Get West London report it is a number McCormack favours out of tribute to his grandmother.
Leeds have kept the number clear… for now.

While 44 is an unusual shirt for players to wear, the club have assigned the numbers 43 and 45 to new signings.
The club’s 2017/18 squad list shows midfielder Mateusz Klich with number 43, and striker Caleb Ekuban with 45.
The number 44 being free is no guarantee McCormack will be arriving, but perhaps, Leeds are keeping the door slightly ajar in case their enquiry is favourably received for the forward to make a remarkable comeback.
