Steve Bruce, manager of Championship side Aston Villa, wants to re-sign John Terry according to reports but Sporting were keen too.

Hold onto your hats Aston Villa fans because John Terry’s potential return has just got a lot more realistic.
According to The Sun, Steve Bruce is desperate to bring the 37-year-old back for one more season at Villa Park. But Bruce’s hopes were hanging by a thread.
Because Madeira Rodrigues, one of the candidates in the running to be the new president of Sporting Lisbon, told Record that Terry would move to the Estadio Jose Alvalade if he was victorious in Saturday’s election.
“I cannot pay him what he’s used to, but I think he’s very close to being our player,” Rodrigues said.
But, suddenly, everything has changed. As reported by The Mirror, Rodrigues has suddenly pulled out of the running to take over at Sporting, meaning Terry will not be spending the autumn days of his career in Lisbon after all.

So this the opportunity Bruce has been waiting for, as long as Aston Villa’s new owners are ready to finance a deal for Terry.
The former England captain spent the 2017/18 season at Villa Park after being released by Chelsea, skippering the Midland giants to the play-off final at Wembley.
But amid a financial crisis, Terry was let go in July as Aston Villa could not afford to extend his contract. Now, with Naseef Sawiris and Wes Edens at the helm, they might be able to.
