Steven Gerrard’s Rangers fought back twice to seal an impressive 2-2 away draw at Villarreal in the Europa League on Thursday.

The result was far better than the performance for Rangers on Thursday night.
Steven Gerrard’s side were outplayed for the vast majority of their Europa League clash away at Villarreal but managed to snatch a dramatic 2-2 draw thanks to second-half goals from Scott Arfield and Kyle Lafferty.
Villarreal will be kicking themselves after throwing away two points, particularly after wasting a host of opportunities. But Gerrard certainly deserves plenty of credit for the way his side battled back.
Rangers were particularly poor in the first 45 minutes but were far more aggressive after the interval, with buccaneering full-backs James Tavernier and Borna Barisic, who were pretty much anonymous up until half-time, helping set up both Rangers’ goals.
The Spanish press certainly seems to think Rangers have a future star in their 38-year-old coach.

“His genius on the field has transferred to the bench,” AS writes of the former Liverpool captain.
Make no mistake, this is exactly the sort of game Rangers probably would have lost under Pedro Caixnha or Graeme Murty last season.
Gerrard’s Gers look mentally strong and resilient, capable of stepping up to the plate and responding when required.
