Fraser Forster has lost his place at Southampton, who could bring in Ben Foster if West Bromwich Albion are relegated from the Premier League.

West Bromwich Albion boast a number of experienced Premier League quality players that will surely be offered escape routes if, or indeed when, relegation finally snares the Baggies.

As reported by the Sun, Craig Dawson, Jay Rodriguez, Jonny Evans and Ben Foster are all expected to be targeted by top tier vultures with West Brom seven points adrift at the bottom of the table and set to drop into the Championship.

It is understood that 34-year-old goalkeeper Foster is in the sights of both Stoke City and Southampton, who themselves are not yet safe from relegation.

And the fact that Southampton are even interested in the former Manchester United goalkeeper represents another worrying sign for his fellow Englishman and near-namesake Fraser Forster.

29-year-old Forster has been one of the Premier League’s most reliable goalkeepers since he swapped Celtic for the South Coast for £10 million in 2014, as reported by the BBC, but he has endured a dramatic drop in form this season.

After a series of high-profile mistakes, culminating in a 5-2 Boxing Day thrashing at Tottenham Hotspur, Forster has not been seen in over two months, with Alex McCarthy taking his place as the Saints’ new number one.

Long-time understudy McCarthy, however, seems unlikely to hold down the position for the foreseeable future so the addition of Foster, whose reputation remains intact despite West Brom’s dismal run, could potentially represent an immediate improvement to the starting XI.

And push Forster further down the pecking order in the process…
