When The Saints took the lead inside six minutes at the KCOM, few would have tipped The Tigers to turn the game around in such dramatic fashion.
Southampton striker Charlie Austin has admitted on Twitter that he is disappointed with the way his side threw away the lead to lose against Hull City on Sunday.
Austin netted his eighth of the season in all competitions from the spot inside six minutes, meaning he is now the highest scoring Englishman this season level with Theo Walcott, as Claude Puel’s side looked certain to add to their impressive triumph over Inter Milan in the Europa League in midweek.
However, the hosts turned the game on it’s head with two goals in the space of 125 seconds just after the hour mark, substitute Robert Snodgrass slamming home the equaliser before turning provider with a sublime free-kick that Michael Dawson glanced into the far corner.
Saints fans can be forgiven for wracking their brains to figure out how their side made the long trip south without even a single point in the bag, with Austin denied by a heroic Dawson block at the death.
And the Southampton striker has admitted his frustrations after Mike Phelan’s strugglers nicked their first league win since August.
The result means The Saints have won just three league games since Puel’s arrival from Nice and are in 10th position.
