Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly in negotiations to sign Shoya Nakajima but could Premier League rivals Southampton beat them to him?

If rumours are to be believed, Shoya Nakajima is apparently on his way to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the January transfer window.
The Japanese international winger has been in top form for Primeira Liga outfit Portimonense since the start of last season and, according to A Bola, Wolves are in negotiations over a deal that would see him move to Molineux for £17 million.
Portimonense’s president has even admitted that Nakajima is edging closer to a move to the Black Country with the deal 80% done (Radio Renascenca).
But could Wolves still face competition for the wide-man’s signature? According to Record, Southampton have sent scouts to watch Nakajima this month after Portimonense’s game against Tondela and confirmed their interest in signing him ahead of the January transfer window.
And, between Wolves and Southampton, it is clear to see who needs a creative attacking midfielder more.

Wolves were exciting, forceful and, most importantly, victorious in wins against Chelsea and Newcastle United over the last few days with Diogo Jota, Morgan Gibbs-White and co in top form.
Southampton, meanwhile, continue to look toothless in attack and have scored just 13 goals in 18 Premier League games, struggling once again in the 1-0 defeat to Cardiff City on Saturday. Nakajima could finally fill the void left by Dusan Tadic, whose sale continues to look all the more baffling.
But with Wolves in advanced negotiations, have Southampton left it too late?
