Davy Klaassen made just seven Premier League appearances before he was sold by Everton, joining Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen this summer
Everton did not wait around to cut their losses on Davy Klaassen.
Just one year after the Dutch midfielder moved to Goodison Park from Ajax for £23 million, he was flogged to Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen. Klaassen was handed just three Premier League starts for The Toffees and was sold at a £12 million loss.
But the 25-year-old has wasted no time in restoring his reputation in Germany.
In short, Klaassen has been a revelation since joining Werder Bremen, showcasing the hard running and the intelligence that made him arguably the best midfielder in the Eredivisie during his final season at Ajax.
He has scored just once and provided a single assist so far but his influence goes way beyond the bare statistics. Klaassen was terrific once again as Bremen beat fellow high-flyers Hertha Berlin 3-1 on Wednesday night, meaning the Green and Whites are now third in the Bundesliga table, level with Borussia Dortmund and two points behind Bayern Munich.
And speaking to Deichtsube, Bremen coach Florian Kohfeldt made some bold claims about Klaassen’s midweek display.
“Davy made a world class performance against Hertha,” he said.
Perhaps Everton should have given Klaassen more of a chance. After all, it did seem a little harsh that he was written off after just seven Premier League games.
