Nottingham Forest allegedly tried on multiple occasions to sign Danish goalkeeper Frederick Ronnow, who has been left red-faced by Bayern Munich.

As far as goalkeeping debuts go, they do not get much worse than the one suffered by poor Frederick Ronnow on Sunday night.

The Danish international has big shoes to fill at Eintracht Frankfurt after the excellent Lukas Hradecky joined Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen in the summer. And it is fair to say Ronnow did not exactly make the best first impression as his new side were thumped 5-0 by Bayern Munich in the German Supercup.

Although hat-trick hero Robert Lewandowkski was at his very best, Ronnow certainly gave Bayern a helping hand. He was caught in no man’s land for the second goal, before spilling a David Alaba cross straight to Kingsley Coman for number four.

And Twitter was far from forgiving:

So any Nottingham Forest fans who might been watching could jave felt the sting of poetic justice. Ronnow was heavily linked with a move to the City Ground both last summer and in the January transfer window.

In fact, Forest made at least three bids before the then-Brondby goalkeeper decided that he did not want to move to England’s second tier, according to the Nottingham Post.

These days, Forest can count on Costel Pantilimon, the giant Romanian who appears to have solved their goalkeeping woes. On Sunday’s evidence, missing out on Ronnow might not have been the crushing blow it first appeared. Although things can surely only get better.
