It seems almost laughable now that Wolverhampton Wanderers placed a £7 million price-tag on Connor Coady’s head back in October, as reported by The Sun.

It was understood that Newcastle United and West Brom were both interested in the former Liverpool youngster who, at the time, was yet to establish himself as one of the key players in Wolves’ squad.

Flash forward to today, however, and the prospect of selling Coady for just £7 million would not even register in the mind of Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

The likes of Ruben Neves, Ivan Cavaleiro and even Barry Douglas might have hogged the headlines as the Black Country giants cruised to the Championship title but it is impossible to understate the impact made by Coady in 2017/18.

From a makeshift and rather unconvincing right-back last season, the 25-year-old has thrived at the heart of Nuno’s back three this season, blossoming into an old-school sweeper and a real leader of the team.

Now, we are starting to finally see why Coady was once tipped for greatness at Anfield. He will be playing Premier League football next season and we all know what that does to players’ price-tags.

Michael Keane and Ben Gibson were both rated at £30 million last summer by Burnley and Middlesbrough while other talented young English centre-halves like Harry Maguire and Alfie Mawson now have £50 million price-tags on their heads.

If Coady stands out in the top flight, imagine how much he’ll be worth. More than £7 million, for a start.
