Joe Hart’s poor Premier League season at West Ham United has reportedly not put Wolverhampton Wanderers off the Manchester City outcast.

Joe Hart of West Ham United is dejected after the Premier League match between Manchester United and West Ham United at Old Trafford on August 13, 2017 in Manchester, England.

Fittingly, Wolves have tended to strike gold in the transfer market of late.

While the likes of Roderick Miranda and Rafa Mir have not quite made the impact expected, their struggles have been comfortably overshadowed by the roaring success of Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, Ivan Caveleiro and Barry Douglas, to name just four.

But reports in The Mirror that Wolves will offer Joe Hart a Premier League lifeline will no doubt raise eyebrows from a fanbase who are used to the signing of young, foreign superstars-to-be.

In stark contrast to rising stars Neves, Jota and their like, Hart is at the lowest point of his professional career, hitting rock bottom after being left out of England’s World Cup squad following a hugely disappointing loan spell at West Ham United.

The 31-year-old will head back to Manchester City with The Hammers deciding against making his deal permanent and The Mirror claims that Wolves could see Hart as a cheaper alternative to his England counterpart Jack Butland, who will likely cost at least £35 million.

But Wolves’ Chinese owners are multi-billionaires so it’s not as if they really need to save funds. And, on last season’s evidence, Hart would be a massive risk even if he does come cheap.

Hart is simply not the same goalkeeper who won Premier League titles with Manchester City, and produced staggering one-man shows in the Champions League against the likes of Barcelona and Dortmund.

Hart at his best was a world class shot-stopper – but that was a long time ago now, and Wolves’ interest seems to be based on some blind faith that he can somehow recapture his peak form at Molineux.
