Steven Gerrard’s Rangers reportedly want to sign Greg Stewart, who is on loan at Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen from Birmingham City.
Rangers might have fallen short in the Scottish Premiership title race this season, but Steven Gerrard still deserves plenty of credit for putting together a strong and competitive squad at Ibrox.
The Gers have plenty of options for every position these days, with the likes of Jermain Defoe, Steven Davis, Lassana Coulibaly and Nikola Katic providing quality from the bench. But, if there is one position where they are a little short, it is just off the front.
Gerrard can call on two natural goal-scorers in Defoe and Alfredo Morelos while the former Liverpool skipper is hardly short of central midfielders or wingers. But there is no one really capable of thriving between the lines in a central role.
Maybe this is why Gerrard allegedly wants to bring Greg Stewart to Glasgow this summer.
According to the Daily Record, Rangers are looking at a summer deal for the Birmingham City forward, who is currently on loan at Aberdeen and will be a free agent in the summer.
The 29-year-old has shone in Scotland this season, particularly during a spell at Kilmarnock during the first half of 2018/19.
The skilful forward, who has nine goals and nine assists to his name this season, produced a number of sublime performances off the front, linking the play intelligently and causing havoc with his movement and creativity.
Stewart is something Rangers don’t have. So he would fill a void in an otherwise complete squad.
