Championship giants Leeds sold Chris Wood to Burnley for £15m – and he was largely to blame in Monday’s Premier League home defeat to Newcastle United.

15 months ago, Leeds United fans were united in mourning as Chris Wood left for Burnley after the most prolific season of his career.
The New Zealand international had scored a Golden Boot-winning 27 Championship goals for The Whites in the 2016/17 season, so his move to Turf Moor left a major hole in Leeds’ attack. But, with the benefit of hindsight, has their decision to accept Burnley’s club-record £15 million bid (BBC) now been justified?
Wood certainly didn’t look like a £15 million centre-forward in The Clarets’ 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United on Monday Night Football – something the watching Leeds fans were at pains to point out.
The 26-year-old has endured a poor season in front of goal, scoring just once in 12 Premier League games, and he never looked like adding to that tally against Rafa Benitez’s side.

Wood sliced over from close range in the first half before missing two more excellent chances after the interval and Burnley were force to pay for squandering their opportunities as they slipped to a disappointing home defeat.
In the eyes of Leeds fans, Burnley are welcome to Wood. Kemar Roofe, who has scored eight goals from 12 shots on target this season, is in far better form anyway.
