Scottish Premiership giants Celtic have been linked with a move to rescue Sunderland outcast Jack Rodwell from his Stadium of Light hell.

There are largely two schools of thought held by Sunderland fans towards Jack Rodwell.
One, that the midfielder is simply an unfortunate victim of injuries and has suffered a subsequent major blow to his self-confidence; so much so that he is simply a shadow of his former self through little fault of his own.
The other, however, is that Rodwell has been bleeding the club dry for far too long. The £10 million 2014 signing is on wages of £70,000-a-week but has featured only twice in the Championship all season.

However this month could see Rodwell finally depart the Stadium of Light. As reported by the Mirror, the Black Cats have offered to tear up the midfielder’s contract, allowing him to leave for free and kick-start a career that has stalled badly on Wearside.
Rodwell will know, however, that he is not going to earn £70,000-a-week anywhere else. And, with 18 months remaining on his current deal, the former England international would have to sacrifice a cumulative total of £5.4 million in wages by leaving Sunderland this January.

The Sunderland Echo stated on Monday that Celtic have been keeping a close eye on Rodwell for some time. Bhoys manager Brendan Rodgers is understood to have considered signing the former Everton and Manchester City kid on loan last summer.
And the report suggests that Celtic could be a potential destination for Rodwell if he is made a free-agent, but time will tell whether he is willing to give up such a huge sum of money to get his career back on track.
