Oli McBurnie could leave Swansea City this summer and Sheffield Wednesday should make their move.

Oli McBurnie is seen during a training session prior to the International Friendly match between Scotland and Costa Rica at Orium Sports Centr on March 19, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Oli McBurnie’s prolific poaching in the red of Barnsley has earned him plenty of admirers across Yorkshire and he will have no shortage of suitors if he does move on for good.

According to the Scottish Sun, the 21-year-old striker could be on his way to Leeds United this summer and return to the city where he was born. It is understood that McBurnie will even reject a new contract at parent club Swansea City in an attempt to secure a dream move to Elland Road.

But the report adds that local rivals Sheffield Wednesday are still hopeful that they can lure the Scotland international, who won his first international cap last month, to Hillsborough in the summer.

And although McBurnie appears to have his heart set on an emotional return to Leeds, Wednesday should do everything in their power to win the race for one of the Championship’s most prolific marksmen.

Since joining Barnsley on loan from Swansea in January, McBurnie has scored eight goals in 12 starts, and showcased his ability to be in the right place at the right time once again as he snaffled a 93rd-minute equaliser in Saturday’s relegation six-pointer against Bolton Wanderers at Oakwell.

Despite boasting some of the Championship’s most reputable centre-forwards, Sheffield Wednesday have not found goals easy to come by this season and have just 51 in 43 games.

And a natural-born goal-scorer like McBurnie could be key to turning some of those 14 draws into valuable victories.

Although the Owls appear to be up against it, with the Swansea starlet reportedly angling for a move to Leeds this summer, he has one year left on his contract and Wednesday could simply look to outbid their rivals.
