Should Scott Bain now have second thoughts about Celtic move?

Scottish Premiership giants Celtic are keen to keep hold of Scott Bain – but the Dundee owned goalkeeper has lost his place at Pearkhead recently.

Craig Gordon is not getting any younger but he’s not getting any worse either.

The 35-year-old returned from a three-month injury lay-off recently and has been in fantastic form since, particularly in the 4-0 Scottish Cup semi-final thrashing of Rangers during which he made a genuinely world class save to deny Alfredo Morelos.

So the man Gordon displaced between the sticks, Scott Bain, should perhaps give some serious thought to whether a permanent move to Celtic this summer would be the right idea.

Bain joined the Scottish Premiership champions on loan from Dundee in January as cover for the then-crocked Gordon and impressed in his first few games, leading the Scottish Sun to state that Celtic wanted to sign him permanently when he becomes a free agent at the end of the campaign.

And the Daily Record claimed in April that Celtic have entered talks about keeping the 26-year-old, who is understood to be desperate to stay in Glasgow.

But Bain should not overlook the fact that he has lost his place to Gordon and has featured just once since the veteran Scottish international returned to full fitness.

Gordon has a contract at Celtic until 2020 and, as long as he keeps defying father time, there is no reason why he would lose his place as The Hoops’ number one. So, if Bain does agree a deal with Celtic, he should probably get used to life on the bench.

But with other clubs in England and Scotland keen, and possibly more likely to offer first-team football, Bain should consider his options carefully.
