Should reports of another potential Manchester City loanee have Celtic fans worried?

Premier League champions-elect Manchester City could send Claudio Gomes on loan to Scottish Premiership giants Celtic in the near future.

There appears to be no end in sight to the Celtic and Manchester City partnership.

The runaway Premier League leaders have sent a few of their best and brightest to the esteemed Parkhead finishing school in the last few years with great results.

Jason Denayer shone on loan at Celtic in 2015/16, winning the SPFA Young Player of the Year award while Patrick Roberts (below) played a starring role as The Hoops lifted the domestic treble in an exceptional 2016/17 season. Dedryck Boyata and Oliver Ntcham, meanwhile, moved to Celtic on permanent deals from the Etihad.

And according to Le Parisien, the next in line could be 17-year-old French starlet Claudio Gomes. City snapped up the highly-rated teen from Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window, although he will not join up with Pep Guardiola’s side until June.

After that, it is understood that Gomes will be sent out on loan, with Celtic or sister clubs NAC Breda and Gijon his likely destination.

The success of Denayer and Roberts at Parkhead will have some Celtic fans thrilled about Gomes’s potential. But then there is the other side of the coin that needs considering.

It is all well and good Celtic borrowing City’s brightest starts and giving them the chance to develop but what of the Hoops’ own youngsters?

What chance does a Kristoffer Ajer (below), a Calvin Miller or a Jack Aitchison have of forcing his way into Brendan Rodgers’ first-team plans if his pathway is blocked by a French wonder-kid signed by one super club from another super club and loaned out to Celtic for a temporary spell?

Would Aitchison, for example, have followed Kieran Tierney into the starting XI by now if Roberts had not spent the last two years at Celtic?

There is a fine line here and Rodgers and co must ensure that their pursuit of bargain signings does not get in the way of the talent already at their disposal.
