Tim Sherwood has not managed for two years but Rangers are running out of options.

If Ray Wilkins is to be believed, he is in the frame to be hired at Rangers in some capacity.
The Gers are still on the lookout for a new manager and, after seemingly exhausting their options, may have to think outside the box. But Wilkins, who played for Rangers between 1987 and 1989, believes he knows exactly what the club need.
“I’m in the frame, I’d love to be able to help,” Wilkins told Jim White on talkSPORT. “I’d love to help a wonderful football club get back on its feet.”
But could he do so alongside a man who, surprisingly, has not really entered the discussion so far?

Tim Sherwood has not managed since leaving Aston Villa in October 2015. But while ‘Tactics Tim’ has been unfairly turned into something of a caricature by the media, his short-lived managerial career offered plenty of signs that he is, indeed, a talented young coach.
He galvanised a Spurs squad that collapsed under Andre Villas-Boas and led them to sixth place in 2013/14 before guiding Aston Villa to the 2015 FA Cup final – just a year before they finished bottom of the Premier League.
And 61-year-old Wilkins know Sherwood very well, having worked with the former Blackburn Rovers and Spurs midfielder during his spell in the Aston Villa dugout.

I was very impressed with his coaching style, he’s a good man manager. I think if he gets another opportunity he’ll do really well,” Wilkins added to talkSPORT a week ago.
So with Derek McInnes out of contention, Michael O’Neill looking unlikely and no other stand-out candidates around right now, perhaps Rangers should take Wilkins’ comments on board.
